The Big Difference Between Solventless & Solvent-Free
What? They're not the same thing you say?
Correct! These 2 very similar terms have very different consequences for a product, let's dive in!
Solventless hemp extracts are produced without using solvents like butane, CO2 or hexane in the manufacturing process. Solventless producers have long been praised for their natural, holistic approach to refine the plant by using only heat pressure, water or ice. They don’t any use aggressive chemicals or solvents that can tarnish the vitality of the compounds within.
On the other hand, solvent-free extracts are produced using harsh chemicals and solvents. You’re probably asking yourself, well…why is it called solvent-free? Despite the use of solvents in their manufacturing process, producers of solvent-free extracts remove most traces of the solvent or residual solvents before having their finished products tested.
When it comes to choosing the right hemp products for you and your family, it can be difficult to understand all the ins and outs, so we’ve made it simple for you.
Solvent-Free: Solvents removed before being sold.
Solventless: from seed to sale - no solvents areused in any part of manufacturing process.
You can check for left over or residual solvents in your hemp products by requesting a copy of the residual solvent report from the manufacturer. We encourage everyone to do this before purchasing hemp products.
When making the choice between solventless or solvent-free products, ask yourself- would I rather have those harmful chemicals removed before sale or never there in the first place?
